UPWELL

Check in. Lift up.

OVERVIEW

This UX writing project focuses on designing a daily check-in feature for a fictional wellness app that prioritizes accessibility, empathy, and motivation. Daily check-ins are a key tool for habit formation and self-reflection, but many wellness apps fail to support users effectively: instructions can be vague or rely solely on visual cues, error messages are often unhelpful, and success messages can feel generic or overly cheerful, creating frustration or disengagement.

This project addresses these challenges by crafting a microcopy-first experience that guides users clearly through each step of their daily check-in. It balances encouragement and clarity, ensuring all messages are screen-reader friendly, concise, and emotionally supportive, while also providing accessible alternatives for errors or empty states.

The scope includes 4 high-fidelity screens, a flow diagram showing the user journey, before-and-after examples of microcopy for accessibility, and a set of guidelines and principles for writing inclusive wellness copy. The result is a check-in experience that helps users feel supported, motivated, and confident, demonstrating how thoughtful UX writing can improve engagement, accessibility, and overall product experience.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Wellness app users need a daily check-in experience that is clear, motivating, and accessible, because current apps often frustrate or disengage users with vague copy, inaccessible prompts, and tone that can feel pressuring.

RESULTS & REFLECTION

Many wellness app users struggle to maintain consistent daily check-ins because error messages are unclear, prompts rely on visual cues or jargon, and success messages are often generic or tone-deaf. This creates frustration, disengagement, and a barrier to forming healthy routines. Users need microcopy that is accessible, empathetic, and motivating, guiding them confidently through each step of their daily check-in.
